PRIMING DATIVE CLITICS IN SPOKEN SPANISH AS A SECOND AND HERITAGE LANGUAGE

Abstract Spanish monolingual speakers often produce recipient ( Pedro le da un lápiz a María ) and nonrecipient constructions Antonio lava la camiseta Carmen doubled by dative clitic. Second language heritage usually avoid clitics. This study examined whether structural priming could effectively increase the production of clitics in N = 23), L2 28), 24). Participants completed baseline that measured use picture description task, followed treatment, an immediate posttest, posttest week later. Results showed increased clitic for all groups, was still significant later speakers. These findings support view may implicate implicit learning considers its pedagogical implications.
